The Growth of A Kite Runner

——An analysis of Amirrsquo;s Conquer of Cowardice from the Perspective of Psychology

Abstract

Khaled Hosseini is a contemporary novelist who won great fame when he published his first novel The Kite Runner in 2003. He is emotional and good at portraying characters. Figures in his books are with complex and full of character. The Kite Runner is set at the Afghanistan he knew as a child inspired it. It is a humanistic novel wrote in the background of war. This thesis consists of three parts. The first part is introduction, which mainly introduces the background and literature review. The second part is the body,which includes three chapters. Chapter one makes an analysis of the reasons of Amirrsquo;s cowardice from the perspective of positive psychology. The external and internal environment lead to Amirrsquo;s cowardice. Chapter two tells about the changes of Amirrsquo;s life. Chapter three explores how Amir conquer his cowardice and the salvation of himself. The third part is the conclusion. Amir experiences six stages of his life: being naive, betray, suffering, get shocked, conquer cowardice and salvation. Through his life, he grows and also changes his bad character, cowardice. On the one hand, positive environment helps adolescents to grow healthily, and pessimistic one may lead in adolescentsrsquo; unhealthy emotions and values. On the other hand, personality should be view from a positive way. It is stable through onersquo;s life but can be changed through onersquo;s strong willpower toward the good direction that people expect.

The Kite Runner was published in 2003, and it won the popularity of people and became an international bestseller. All important themes in literature and life such as love, panic interweave with each other in the story. The story attracts attention of a large number of researchers.
